  • Description:

To gauge the prevalence of corruption, the percentage of establishments that consider that firms with characteristics similar to theirs are making informal payments or giving gifts to public officials to secure government contracts is recorded. The results are based on surveys of more than 100,000 firms in 125 countries. (Please note that in the case of BEEPS 2008 surveys, the question was asked to the firms that applied for a government contract in the last fiscal year while in the previous rounds of BEEPS the question was asked to all firms participating in the survey.)
